The VersaSCAN is a single platform capable of providing spatial resolution to both electrochemical and materials-based measurements. Each VersaSCAN is based on a common high-resolution, long-travel, closed-loop positioning system mounted to a vibration-resistant optical base. Different auxiliary pieces are mounted to the positioning system. These ancillary pieces (e.g., an electrometer, piezo vibration unit, or a laser sensor) provide functionality to the positioning system for different scanning probe experiments. VersaSTAT potentiostats and Signal Recovery Lock-in Amplifiers are integrated via ethernet control to make accurate measurements of these small signals.

  • SECM (Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy): This technique provides spatial resolution for research on kinetics, biological sensors, catalysis, and corrosion mechanisms.
  • SVET (Scanning Vibrating Electrode Technique): The vibrating electrode scanning technique provides spatial resolution for research on non-uniform corrosion in areas such as welds, pits, and galvanic couples.
  • LEIS (Local Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy): Local electrochemical impedance spectroscopy adds spatial resolution to studies on coatings, corrosion, and any applications that benefit from AC techniques.
  • SKP (Scanning Kelvin Probe): The scanning Kelvin probe provides spatial resolution for studies on semiconductors, corrosion, and coatings.
  • SDC (Scanning Droplet Cell): The SDC technique is suitable for corrosion, kinetics, and fluid flow experiments, especially when the sample cannot be cut or must be exposed to different electrolytes.
